About Joe

I’m originally from England but have been living in Rome for many years. From an early age growing up on a farm in the region of Somerset, England, I was surrounded by nature and grew passionate about the natural world as well as the environmental issues that now threaten it – but it was until I developed health issues years later did I start looking at the natural world also as a source of healing.

As is often the case, my studies into health and natural medicine only began after a series of personal health problems, and although I fully followed the medical treatment that was necessary to resolve the acute situation, I wanted to understand why these issues had arisen so that I could avoid future recurrences.

At that point, I started studying exercise, nutrition, fasting, nutraceuticals and phytotherapy and applying them to my health issues with good results. I developed a pragmatic approach in finding things that actually worked as well as a passion for understanding the underlying mechanisms. This got me diving more into scientific studies and text books to increase my overall understanding, and during this period I worked with many different healthcare professionals from different backgrounds including Western, Ayurvedic and TCM doctors, nutritionists, naturopaths, psychotherapists, osteopaths, cranio-sacral and breathwork instructors which gave me a broad appreciation for a multi-disciplinary approach to health.

These experiences taught me the value of an integrative approach that combines the best of both conventional medicine together with natural medicine and naturopathy. Of course, a conventional approach is absolutely necessary sometimes in order to deal with acute and life threatening situations, and modern medicine has developed many wonderful tools to that end – but it is also true that the way we live – our sleep, exercise, diet, stress management, circadian rhythms and relationships – is fundamental to our state of health and disease risk – and if we spend time working on improving our physical and psycho-emotional health, we become more resistant to disease and better able to deal with it if we do find ourselves in that position.

“To me, the naturopathic philosophy just made good sense: of looking for the root cause of issues, treating each person as a unique individual and taking into account not only the physical body, but also psycho-emotional, energetic and spiritual aspects”

Throughout this path. I have learnt the value of exploring different perspectives from ancient medical traditions right the way through to cutting edge advanced genetic and functional medicine testing, helping me to explore health from different angles and, above all, to get to know myself better. To me, the naturopathic philosophy just made good sense: of looking for the root cause of issues, treating each person as a unique individual and taking into account not only the physical body, but also psycho-emotional, energetic and spiritual aspects, so after years of self study and personal experimentation in modifying lifestyle habits, I decided to formally begin a naturopathy course at the EU.NA.M. Institute in Rome called Naturopathic Science and Methodologies and lasting for 4 years, which I completed with honours (110 cum laude). My final thesis was called “Naturopathic approaches to insulin issues”.

I now live and work in Rome visiting clients and teaching.
